A Wonderful Day!!!

What a wonderful day at Church. Our music, message, family and friends, and Baptism experience was so special. Yes I said Baptism. My baby girl was Baptized today!!! We are newly members of our church and have not yet had the opportunity to witness their way of Baptism. The Church built a new sanctuary a few years back, but because of the cost of building a Baptistery, they decided just to continue to use the one in the older building for now. There plans are to eventually build even a bigger sanctuary in a few years, and so they are waiting till then to build a new Baptistery. Anyway, they rent out the older building to a Christan Hispanic church family. So today, baby girl was baptized after our service and during the beginning of their service. At first it was a little uncomfortable coming into their service mostly cause it was something new and different and it felt like we were intruding in their service. Once I settled into my seat, I took a moment to look around and reflect on the moment. My family and friends present, thinking about the special event that was about to take place with my little girl, thinking about the familiar sound of the music, and feeling the presence of the Lord. I just started feeling emotions rise within myself and all that once was feeling uncomfortable and overwhelming, became very comfortable and familiar. Once baby girl stepped into the water, my cup runnith over litterly!!! I could hardly take the pictures. I really felt very blessed to be there with these God loving people, and sharing this most awesome moment with all that was present. 6 young people professed their love of God today through Baptism. "Thank you Jesus for allowing me to step outside of my "Church Traditions" and experience a new one today". I learned that no matter the difference in cultures, no matter the church, or traditions, no matter the language, you love us all, and we all love you!!! AMEN!!!
Kadie was thrilled with the experience and I know she will keep it all very close to her heart forever!!! She is now a new baby in Christ and has much to learn in her new journey!!! Here are some pictures of her.

Recipe Page Swap "Appetizer"

Last night I finally finished my recipe page for this months swap, which is due in 2 days "Gasp". This catagory for some reason was a difficult one for me to do. Perhaps it was because I had so many other things to think about this month. So I got online and I found this really great site Kevin and Amanda. Lots of great ideas for recipe pages, recipes, and many other fun things. So with Amanda's help, I created the page below.

Tomatos

I am so excited. I discovered today that I have 2 tomatos growing on my tomato plants. I am having a hard time finding the perfect location for them. Tomatos should have 6 to 8 hours of full sunlight each day. In my backyard I cannot seem to find that spot that gets that much sunlight all day. Either its morning sun or evening sun. Today I plan to keep a watch on my yard, and hopefully find a place that gets some sun most of the day. Lucky I have planted 3 of them in pots so that I can move them around. Of course they are heavy and not easy to move. The ones I planted in the ground are thriving, but no buds or tomatos. So I might just have some really nice green plants to enjoy. LOL!!! This has been a different adventure into gardening for me. I usually have a very green thumb when it comes to gardens. However, this year, I am not sure.

Scrapbooking with sketches

Hidy Ho, I am finally getting the chance to blog my retreat weekend. What a grand time we all had. I actually got a few layouts done in between our trips to the bakery, the scrapbook store, the quilt shop, Walmart, and eating dinner out. I preplanned 10 layouts, I got 4 completed, and 1 more almost done. Now I know to some of you, that does not sound like a lot in 2 days, but for me, that is a lot. I am one to take forever doing a layout. Everything just has to be perfect. Yes, I am a perfectionist to some degree. Its a sad sickness, which causes me to be very slow at EVERYTHING I do. Anyways, thats a subject for a different day. Right now I want to share the 4 layouts I did. First I used sketches that I found on 52sketches52weeks. I am totally in love with these sketches. They make scrapbooking so super easy its just ridiculous. I love to do 2 page layouts. It is just very hard for me to do a 1 page layout. I want both sides of the page to match. With 52sketches52weeks all the sketch's are 1 page sketches. So what I did was I took 2 different sketches that were similar, and made my 2 page layouts. I almost used all the previous sketch's to do this and I kept them pretty true to the sketch. Some minor changes to fit the photos. They really did work well together. So as you look at the pictures of my layouts, notice the different sketches for each page and how well they worked together. Totally awesome!!!

Check back later for the 5th layout that I have not completed yet. Hopefully I will get around to it this weekend. I also hope to do a few cards using the Mojo Monday. I have gotten a few weeks behind on them. TTFN

Prom and Retreat

This past weekend was Prom weekend. My son and his girlfriend attended her Senior Prom. I was so excited to finally get Prom pictures to scrapbook.

They are such a cute couple!! They so complement each other!!!

This weekend coming up is our Sistah Chicks Retreat. I am sooooo looking forward to this time with my girlfriends. It seems we do not see each other near as much these days. Life just seems to keep us all very busy. It will be nice to be together for the weekend. My plans are to scrapbook. We all really just do our thing when we go. Some sew, some scrapbook, some work on cards. Its really all about spending time together and having fun doing whatever. So I am actually scrapbooking this time. I have already planned out 9, 2 page layouts to work on. That's what I have spent this week working on. I went from planning my pages to organizing paper and embellishments. I learned you can not do preplanned pages unless you are better organized. I seperated my paper by designer and then put into catagories like Baby Boy, Baby Girl, Big Boy, Big Girl, Christmas, Thanksgiving ect....the rest of the paper that was basically "No Name" I put into a container for mostly my DD to use. I then did the same thing with stickers ect.... Now when decided to plan a page, all I have to do is pull only the catagory out that I am working on. It will be much easier. I am really happy with how my scrapbook room is coming together. Well, that's it for now. I am off to church and then when I get home I will be packing up my stuff. Lets hope I will have lots to post when I get back home from retreat. TTFN

Sketch #18

This was a great sketch for this week. Very easy!!! I decided since I was doing my sons pictures, I better leave off the flowers. Swirls were ok. I put a little bling on the swirls to give it that little something, something that the page needed to stand out. I had the perfect pictures for this sketch and was so very glad to finally get them on a page. Go check out 52sketches52weeks and give the sketch a try.

This is my son when he was 1 year and 4 months. He is 21 now. I am so excited to be getting some of his pictures on pages. I may have said that already, but its worth saying again, cause I am so excited to be scrapbooking right now.

This weekend, I will finish my MoJo Monday sketch, and I plan to do some planning of pages for upcoming retreat using some of the past sketches on 52sketches52weeks More to come......

Happy Birthday Baby Girl!!!

Today was my baby girls 10th birthday. Its hard to believe she is already 10 years old. Hug your little ones, cause time just flys by way to fast. She is growing into a wonderful young lady. I am so proud of her. Happy Birthday my sweet girl!!! We celebrated her birthday at home this year. We had first planned to take her to Gatti Town Pizza. Its a fun place to go for pizza and games with tokens. Kind of like a Chuck E. Cheese. Anyway, with all the Swine Flu stuff going around, we decided it was best to stay home. So we ask her what she wanted for her Birthday meal. She is defiantly her daddy's girl cause she ask for grilled steak and Baked Potato. So I called in the family, called her little friend down the street and one of her home school friends and we gathered around the table for a meal of Steak, Baked Potato, Macaroni Cheese and Salad. It was a feast fit for a Queen.
Then after dinner, we had homemade hybrid chocolate cake with strawberry icing. Yes you heard me right!! That's what the girl wanted for her cake. I thought it was a strange combination, but believe it or not, it tasted really good. Kind of like chocolate dipped strawberry's. The recipe I used I found on one of my favorite blogs Carries Sweet Life. The only change I made was the icing and omitted the almonds. I call this homemade hybrid, cause its part box cake for base and then you add other ingredients to make it more homemade. I am not thrilled with box cakes at all, but this one just sounded really good and seemed quick and easy to make. This cake is also very, very moist cake. Its definitely a keeper!!!

1 pkg. (8 squares) BAKER’S Semi-Sweet Chocolate, divided
1 pkg. (2-layer size) chocolate cake mix
1 pkg. (4-serving size) JELL-O Chocolate Instant Pudding
4 eggs
1 cup BREAKSTONE’S or KNUDSEN Sour Cream
1/2 cup oil
1/2 cup water
1 tub (8 oz.) frozen COOL WHIP Whipped Topping
2 Tbsp. PLANTERS Sliced Almonds
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease two 9-inch round baking pans. Chop 2 of the chocolate squares; set aside. Beat cake mix, dry pudding mix, eggs, sour cream, oil and water in large bowl with electric mixer on low speed just until moistened. Beat on medium speed 2 min. Stir in chopped chocolate. Spoon into prepared pans.
Bake 30 to 35 min. or until wooden toothpick inserted in centers comes out clean. Cool in pans on wire racks 10 min. Loosen cakes from sides of pans. Invert onto racks; gently remove pans. Cool cakes completely.
Place frozen whipped topping and remaining 6 chocolate squares in microwaveable bowl. Microwave on HIGH 1-1/2 min. or until chocolate is completely melted and mixture is smooth, stirring after 1 min. Let stand 15 min. to thicken. Place one cake layer on serving plate; top with one-fourth of the chocolate mixture and second cake layer. Spread top and side with remaining chocolate mixture. Garnish with almonds. Store leftovers in refrigerator.

Ok, so the decorating is not my best. I really did not graduate from cake decorating and its amazing at how quickly you can forget how to do it. I was in a big hurry and really did not have the right icing to decorate with. She wanted her name in chocolate and that was not easy to work with. So its not the most beautiful cake, but where it lacks beauty, it made up in taste.

After cake, the girls played a few games that DD had gotten for her birthday. They had great fun, but then decided it was time to jump on the trampoline that she also got for her birthday. So that is what they are doing now. Her little friend from down the street is spending the night with her. So she is a very happy birthday girl right now. I have the feeling that this will be her favorite birthday ever. Of course she says that every year. LOL!!! Sweet girl!! Then they seattled in for Barbie time and TV. I am thinking its going to be a late night. Lucky I am a night owl!!

Sketch #17

From 52sketches52weeks. I am not certain I made the deadline. I realized after I uploaded my layout, their time is different from my time. They are Eastern and I am Central. I think that means they are a hour ahead of me. I think I uploaded my layout at 10:30p.m. If that is true, than perhaps I made it. If not, well, sigh"Oh well" I tried. I am very happy I did get it done though. I still have a second page to do, but ran into a problem. I only have 2 small pictures and they would be lost on a 12x12 page. I had a 3rd picture, but not sure where it got off too. Must figure out how to make the small pictures bigger!!! Any ideas, that do not involve copyright laws?? They get a little snippy if you try to sneak them through the scanners at the store. Do the photographers keep copies 21 years later?? I doubt it, but still they want let you scan them. UGGG!!! Maybe if I mix them amongst a bunch others, they want even notice. LOL!!! Its happened before!! I think the trick is to catch them when they are very busy!! Ok, so here is my page from a very awesome and fun sketch. You can view the sketch on the website 52sketches52weeks. Just look for #17 sketch. #18 is already out and I am ready to get started. I have a entire week to get it done. YIPPY!!!

This is my son whom is now 21. So you can see just how far behind I am on my scrapbooking. Most of the layouts I have planned for the next few weeks will be of him. My DD is going to have to wait a while before I can get back to her. I must get some of his pictures on pages. I used my Cricut Home Accents Cartridge and Plantin Schoolhouse. The paper is Cloud9Design by Fiskers. The striped is Travel Stripe and the little frog and flower in the corners are from the Baby Boy Collection. You will be able to see more of it once I get the second page done. Its adorable paper and I wish I had more!!

This week I will be home most of the week. The Health Dept. shut down our pool here in town because of Swine Flu. I am very grateful they are looking out for our best interest, but I am very sad to not be able to go swimming for a entire week or maybe even more if they do not get this stuff under control. I was just getting in the groove of going and my DD and I have actually made some great progress. So I will be home all week(sniffle, sniffle). I plan to disinfect my entire house this week. I figure if I can get things around here super clean and germ free and keep it that way, hopefully we want get sick. I know DD and I plan to do our part by staying at home as much as we can. We just have to hope my husband and Son do not catch it. They work for the City Water and Sewer dept. and deal with the public every day and work amongst a large amount of employees. I will be worried about them bringing it home!! I must remember that God is in control!!! Anyways, I hope to get lots of scrapbooking pages preplanned for my upcoming retreat in 2 weeks. Maybe its good I have to stay home this week. Stay tune for more scrapbooking, cards and maybe some sweet recipes!!!

MoJo Monday #84

Since I am doing two different challenges, I thought I better post in 2 different post, because I will need to upload each link to each project separate. First, I completed my MoJo Monday Challenge. I decided to use scraps from my 2 page layout I did on Friday night, which is in previous post. It was definitely a challenge. Not so much using the sketch, but coming up with a idea for the card using the same paper I used on the layout. The reason it was such a challenge is that it was school paper. So after some thinking, I decided to think way ahead to next school year. My DD is going to be a 5th grader next year, and so I first focused in on the words "fifth grade" on the paper. Then I thought "Thank You" would be the appropriate words for a favorite teacher. She always has a favorite teacher every year. So now I am prepared to give away a really cute card, using a really awesome sketch, to a really awesome teacher!!! I have a feeling since I am working on my sons school pages right now, that most of my MoJo Monday cards are going to be school related for a while. I am trying to use scraps from my layouts to make my cards as to not have as much waste. Good thing she has lots of teachers. I may have enough to give them all a special card. Here is my MoJo Monday card for this week.

52 Sketches in 52 Days!!!

Happy Friday!! Yes, I know for most of you, its over already, but I am still up doing my thing and so it still is Friday to me. I have been busy as a bee this past week doing some much needed spring cleaning to my house. After I finished today, we went swimming, did some baking, and now I am scrapbooking. Yes you heard me right!! I actually am scrapbooking as I type this message. Just taking a break for a minute. I am so thrilled. Its something that has been bugging me for a long time. Not having the desire to scrapbook. I use to love scrapbooking and then I am not sure what happen. I just lost my Scrapbook MoJo somewhere during the past few years!!! I think I got caught up in all the shopping, collecting, and perhaps too many other hobbies(shhh, I did not just say that). Well yesterday while taking a break from house cleaning, I did a little blogging. I was actually looking at some other card sketch blogs. I then started going from one blog to another. While doing so, I made the most awesome discovery. I could hardly contain myself. I wanted to break out all of my scrapbook stuff and scrapbook right then and there. Instead, I bookmarked it to come back later when I had more time. This particular site got me so excited. Here is why?? As you know from previous post, I love, love MoJo Monday sketches. They make cardmaking soooo easy because they take half the thinking away. All you need is paper and stamps. The idea is already there for you. I just totally love making a card using sketches and I love the challenge each week. Well guess what?? I found a site that offers weekly challenges doing the same thing as MoJo Monday ,but with scrapbook pages. Is that not the best thing in all the scrapbook land!!! I know I am so excited. I knew the minute I saw this site, this is exactly what I need to get my scrapbook MoJo back. It was all I could do to wait till today to start. I even lay in bed last night thinking about it. It took forever to fall asleep. I knew though I needed to finish up my cleaning and a few other things I had started, or like most things in my life, I would never finish. So once I gotter all done, I was able to sit down and play today. I went on this afternoon and just started with sketch #1 and created a 2 page layout. I followed the examply pretty closely as I loved it so much. AWWWW!!! It felt so good to actually scrapbook and it was wonderful to have a really good sketch and example to follow. I know there are lots of great page sketch sites out there in Internet land, but to me, I have not found one that was as easy to follow as this site seems to be. I love the ideas that are given with each sketch. I am so visual and really need that kind of help. I love the weekly challenge AND great prizes!!! Is that not awesome!!! Ok, so here is the site........Drum Roll............ 52sketches52weeks The thought of actually doing 52 scrapbook pages is almost more than my mind can even grasp!!! I know that the site is already on Day 17, but I am ready to jump in and perhaps I will be able to back track and do the 16 I have missed. Today was a great start to that goal. Here is my very first sketch from this site. I loved it!!! It was so much fun and I got to use a lot of my tools. On these pages I used my Cricut with Base camp and Accent Essentials cartridge. Now, I think what I plan to do is take the scraps from my pages and do my MoJo Monday card. I really do not want to give up my card sketches, but I am defiantly going to do some major focusing on my scrapbooking, paper and digital.
