Candy Holder

Here is the project we made in our homeschool class yesterday. I found this idea on http://debbiedee.blogspot.com/ It only uses a 6x6 piece of pattern paper, ribbon, favorite stamp, circle punch, scallop punch and paper crimper. This was very easy and the kids loved the chocolate candy bar. The saying says "You know someone is your friend when they give you more than half of a chocolate candy bar" I challenged them to give this project to a friend as a gift. Later I found out that some of them actually gave away their chocolate candy bar. I was pleasantly surprised!!! I am not sure I could have even done that if it were my only candy bar. They are all such wonderful children. It is a true blessing to be a part of such a great group of people with such awesome children. Next week we are doing calender clipboards. Do not have the idea worked out yet, but the calenders are printed, cut and ready.

BFF Retreat!!!

Well I am here to report that the Sistah Chicks Retreat was a blast. Most of us arrived on Thursday, and from the moment we arrived, the laughter and fun did not stop, until we all departed on Sunday. Then we cried as each person drove away. The days were fast and the nights were long. I don't think I went to bed before 3:00a.m. on any night. We just hated to see the days come to a end. We shopped, we ate, we ate, and we scrapbooked, and we told stories, and we ate, and talked some more. Once we did finally go to bed, it was hard to wind down and fall asleep. We are already eagerly looking forward to our next one, which is scheduled in January. Here is the Sistah Chicks!!! I love these ladies!!!

Below is one of the projects I completed. I did finish several projects this time. So it was not all talk and no progress. This one was a kit that I received in our gift swap. Just let me say that I truly hate the Chinese Take Away (whatever its called)game. I got the coolest gift ever, only to have it taken away. BOOWHOOOO!!! That really stinks. LOL!!! Really its a fun game, its just hard to loose a really great gift. This gift however turned out to be a really fun project. I have tons more to share about the projects and the weekend, but I want overwhelm you in just one post. I will post again pictures and stuff as I go.

The Shack

Ok, after posting last night, I started going down my bloglist and visiting some of my favorite blogs. Sometimes when I do this, I might visit someone else's favorite blogs, which is now why I have at least 60 blogs on my blogline. So anyways, I am going along and I run into this ladies blog that mentions that she has just finished this book called

Now normally I do not set my laptop down and run out and buy a book just because someone recommends it to read. I would most likely give it great thought and if I run into it at some point, then I might buy it. However, I put my laptop down and got my purse and ran to the nearest book store to buy this book. The reason for this is I have had so many people recommend this book. One of the ladies in my homeschool group comes up to me a few weeks ago at our meeting and hands the book to me and says "Have you read this book" I do not think anyone has ever done that to me before. So I took the book and read the back and it did sound like a really good book. So I wrote down the name of the book in my Remember Notebook and that was that. For the last 2 weeks every time I open my Remember Notebook, it is the first thing I notice and it is the only thing on that page. Now why I did not write anything else on that page is beyond me. Just weird. I skipped to the next page and that is where I started writing stuff. That page has only had that name of that book on it for 2 weeks now and everytime I open my Remember Notebook, there it is staring back at me. So then last night here I go to this blog and there it is staring back at me. YIKES!!! Kind of weird don't you think. So I did not hesitate another second. I got my shoes and purse and out the door I went. I got the book and came straight back home and begin reading it. I am now on chapter 3 and it already has me intrigued. I probably would have read more, but I am trying very hard to be in bed by 10:30. So anyway, this book is now my new read. I will have to put the SisterChicks to the side because I feel like I must read this book. Not sure why, but I must. Here is the blog where I ran into it last night. You can go and read her review. School is in Session!!

Wow, the last 2 weeks have been crazy trying to get ready for school to start. Shopping for new school clothes and supplies, signing up for homeschool classes, shopping and preparing for my fall papercraft class, first day of school, and finishing up some swap pages for my retreat next week. I think now I have finally got most of the hard stuff behind me and looking very forward to what the Fall season has to bring. It is my favorite time of year. I totally love all the Fall colors, cooler weather, and the celebrations and holidays, field trips, and craft shows that come with it all. I am getting very excited about decorating my porch. I try really hard not to get it all out till October, but I am sooo itching to get it out now. I see all the Fall decor in the store and it just fills me with such joy. Scarecrows and Pumpkins are my most favorite of all Fall Decor. I have a Scarecrow family that I set out on the porch with lots of Pumpkins. Fun! Fun! I have some fun little spooks that I set around on my shelves. Awwww!!! just gets me excited just thinking about it all.

I wanted to share a few things that I have been up to!! Last Friday we went on a homeschool field trip to Sulpur, Oklahoma. There were about 20 or so kiddos and 9 or so adults. We visited Chickasaw National Park. Totally awesome trip. The weather was perfect and the kids had a blast swimming in 32 degree crystal clear water. At one point I stuck half a foot in the water and thought I was going to pass out. It was so cold. No way could I have put my whole foot in. I was amazed at how they stayed in the water. You would ask them how the water felt and through teeth chattering they would say "Its great!!!" Their skin went from white, to pink, to almost a purple, before they were done swimming. All in all they stayed in the water for about 2 hours I suppose. We even had one of the Moms brave it and go for a swim. She really did make it look inviting. She tried to convince the rest of us, but we did not fall for it. Well one of the other Moms fell for it, but not on purpose. She kind of fell in waste deep. She was out very quickly, but saturated and cold.

The day was wonderful and one to always remember!!! We have already planned to go back. This time we are talking about a family camp out. That would be very fun. I hope it happens!!!

Next Thursday I will be leaving to go on a 4 day, 3 night Scrapbook Retreat with some of my girlfriends. The layout below is part of a page swap we are doing for pictures we took from our last weekend retreat. We did a gift exchange playing the Chinese takeaway 3 times game. Not sure what the exact name of the game was, but it was great fun to take away gifts and see what we ended up with in the end. I got a really nice paper pack of cardstock. You know we can always use that cardstock paper. My layout is meant for those pictures. I cannot wait to see all the other layouts my friends are doing and start our retreat album using the pages from the swap.



This is a recipe I made for dinner tonight. Its a recipe by Paula Deen and it is soooo scrumptious. Very high in calories and very rich tasting, so if you are on a special diet right now, I would suggest making the changes needed for your diet. I served it with Salad tossed in Rice Vinegar and Olive Oil and Wheat bread with Mozzarella cheese and garlic powder.

Grilled Shrimp with Cheesy PastaFrom Paula Deen Cooking
1/2 cup butter1 shallot, minced5 cloves minced garlic1 tablespoon minced fresh parsley2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice2 tablespoons white wine1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper2 pounds peeled and deveined shrimp (tails left on)Cheesy Pasta (recipe follows)
In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add shallot, garlic, and parsley; cook for 3 minutes. Add juice, wine and pepper; cook for 1 minute. Remove from heat and cool for 5 minutes.
Place shrimp in large bowl. Pour butter sauce over shrimp and let stand for 30 minutes at room temperature.
Preheat grill to medium high heat. Spray grill with non-stick cooking spray.
Remove shrimp from butter sauce, discarding sauce. Grill shrimp, for 1-2 minutes per side or until shrimp are pink and firm.
Cheesy Pasta
1/2 cup butter3 cloves garlic, minced2 cups heavy whipping cream2 cups grated Parmesan cheese1 egg yolk1/4 teaspoon salt1/4 teaspoon black pepper1 (12 ounce) package of linguine, cooked and kept warm
In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat; add garlic and cook stirring frequently, for 3 minutes. Stir in cream and cook for 8-10 minutes, or until thickened. Add cheese, stirring until melted. Whisk in egg yolk until combined; cook for 2 minutes. Stir in salt and pepper. Add pasta, tossing gently to coat. Serve immediately.
inally finished reading This is my 3rd completed book of this series and I just cannot say enough about how much I have enjoyed reading these books. I started reading this one last year for a book challenge that I failed at miserably. I have never been a very big reader of books, but a few years ago I really needed to heal my soul from a broken heart, and some how these books just landed in my lap. I started with "SisterChicks on the Loose", my total favorite, then I read 'SisterChicks do the Hula" very fun, and now I just finished "SisterChicks Down Under" Now this one was a bit slow for me and it has taken me almost a entire year to read it. I try and read at night before I go to sleep, but this one in the beginning sort of made me go to sleep and I would have to restart the chapter every time. As I got further into the book though, I did enjoy it more and more and found myself able to finish several chapters before I fell asleep. Then it got to the point where I did not want to set it down. I needed to know what was going to happen next. Every time I read one of these books, I take away something very meaningful and helpful. In this book the friends were talking about Gods extravagant love. They took a passage in Ephesians, which talks about Gods deep love for us. Keep company with him and learn a life of love. Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious, but extravagant. He didn't love in order to get something from us, but to give everything of himself. Love like that. Not cautious, but extravagant. WOW!!! is that not awesome. It is totally hard to think about loving like that after you have been hurt by someone you have been friends with for most of your adult life. I find myself being very cautious all the time now and I never use to be that way. I use to love people and just about talk to anyone that came along. I made friends so very easy. Nowadays I find myself sitting as far away from the crowd as possible. Afraid to talk to people. I really do dislike that part of me now. I want to love people again, like God loves us. I want to love them as extravagantly as he loves us. With all my heart and without fear of being hurt. I know it will be a challenge for me, but I also know with Gods help, I will be able to love people again and I will be able to make friends with many. This was really a great book!!!


Next I will be reading

I am not sure what these girls will be up too this time, but I am almost certain I will not be disappointed. Lets just hope it will not take me an entire year to read this one.

First day of school was great. We had a blast getting back to our friends. This week we kind of got off to a slow start with our own personal schooling, but next week we should be going at full speed. Its really hard coming off the summer and jumping in head first. The kids in my papercraft class seem to enjoy the first project,which was the Pinwheel. It was a little difficult for them, and most of them would not spin correctly, but they all turned out very pretty. Our next project will be the Spinner card. Hopefully it will do its thing and spin.

Next week I will be busy getting ready for the Retreat, so if you do not hear from me, do not think I fell off the face of the earth. I will be back with full report of the retreat and hopefully pictures of some projects. TTFN!!
